B²TSM Official Logo

B2TSM, stylized B²TSM, is a classpop[1] (classical + pop) group composed of arguably five of the most prominent composers in the realm of classical music: Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Mozart. B²TSM's name derives from the first letters of each composer: Bach, a squared (²) symbol for Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Mozart. Their catchphrase is "B to the S M". They entered the limelight with their debut song "Duh Duh Duh Dum" on 7th August, 2022.

Many fans have interpreted the logo as the shape of a violin's (or a general bowed string instrument) bridge. One TwoSetter, HanHobbyist*, suggests this to also be a figurative bridge between the classical and pop genres of music, also connecting the past to present.

Album Marking the End of TwoSet Violin[]

As of December 5th, it has been stated on a New York Times post that Brett Yang and Eddy Chen are releasing a B²TSM album as "a part of their farewell" to the TwoSet Violin brand.[2] It is their way of showing "what TwoSet has meant to [them] through [their] art, in the same way a composer shares how they feel through their music," Eddy said.

Bang YG

Bang YG (Played by Brett Yang)

Origins[]

The mastermind behind the non-monotonous, classical-pop group is Bang YG, CEO of LingLing Entertainment (citation needed). To create this group, he ordered a time machine (with the help of his assistant) to bring the composers to the present time. His reasoning to do so was because he believed pop music in our era all sound the same. Therefore, he created this new group "that consists of the greatest musical geniuses of all time."[3]

A possible important detail to note is that, as Bang YG explained his reasons for requesting a time machine to his assistant, he was reading a booklet of repertoire from J.S. Bach.

Bang YG's assistant is yet to be named.

Bang YG may have appeared in the Toxic K-Pop Fans video.[4] In the subtitles/transcript, there is someone named "Why G" speaking.

Niccolo Paganini

Niccolò Paganini (Sell Out)

Niccolò Paganini[]

Niccolò Paganini (27 October 1782 – 27 May 1840 [lived 57 yrs]), though not officially a part of B²TSM, has collaborated with the group in their Duh Duh Duh Dum music video, playing a violin solo. He has also released a diss track with Mozart under his own name. He is played by Eddy Chen.

Since Paganini was not mentioned by Bang YG as a part of B²TSM in the prologue video A New Group is Coming, it is not certain whether Paganini also came to our era through the time machine, or by other means.

In real-life, Paganini was rumored to have sold his soul to the devil, which people saw as an explanation for his extreme talent and mastery while playing the violin. In this parody, TwoSetViolin incorporates the rumor as a part of Paganini's powers. A few of his powers include his abilities to change eye color (from brown to red), burn things at the touch of his hand, and have horns that are not directly visible to the human eye.

A major event that occurred relating to Paganini was that he reacted to the song Shut Down by one of the most famous k-pop girl groups in the world, BLACKPINK. Shut Down sampled a piece Paganini composed, La Campanella. Paganini complained that it only looped the first two bars of his piece.

Sell Out (Paganini)[]

After posting a reaction video to BLACKPINK's Shut Down, Paganini released the Sell Out diss track. Sell Out has 674,729 streams on Spotify and has an official Music Video.

Mozart is featured in the music video. He mostly dances around, and gets to sing in the very beginning of the song.

Mozart's Secret Masterpiece (aka. Choco Choco)[]

This song was leaked an unknown amount of days prior to its official release. It was mainly noticed by r/lingling40hrs users. Discovered in the B²TSM - Topic Music YouTube channel, it could be assumed that YouTube's automated system for official music channels was the reason for the accidental posting of the video.

According to u/nr1bubbletea's Reddit post on r/lingling40hrs, the song is seen to be originally named Choco Choco.[5]

Additionally, user u/RevolutionaryAd7688 accurately guessed that the song was supposed to be formatted into a "TikTok challenge," such as a "dance challenge."[6] In the It's Mozart's Birthday! video, Mozart is seen dancing in front of his phone while singing his song.[7]

Soon after people began noticing that the song was not posted under TwoSetViolin's official YouTube channel, the video got taken down.

On 27 January 2023, It's Mozart's Birthday! was posted, commemorating Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (and B²TSM Mozart's) 267th birthday. At the end of the video, Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich successfully go behind Mozart's back to find "what kind of secret masterpiece he's making." After Mozart catches them in the act, Tchaikovsky urgently tells Shostakovich to publish the song.

Mozart's Secret Masterpiece was posted on the same day of his birthday video. The video description reads "Provided to Youtube by Dmitri Shostakovich".

Maestros Album[]

This album was stated to be Brett Yang and Eddy Chen's farewell gift to fans: "our blood, sweat, and tears," Eddy said in a New York Times post.[2]

I'm Bach (Bach's song)[]

B²TSM - 'I'm Bach' Official MV on YouTube.

Released on December 5th, 2024, after nearly two years of the project being on hiatus. Here, Bach raps about modern music's creation being centralized on monetary gain and fame, instead of passion.

I'm Bach MV - Scientist Filing Through Content Ideas

Scientist looks through content ideas for Bach to be used in.

In the music video, the visuals, overall, show Bach being controlled by dark figures and scientists. Many have interpreted this to be related to TwoSet's announcement in the New York Times post. Brett has said that making content for TwoSetViolin has "felt like [...] 50-kilo weights on [his] shoulders for the last 11 years, trying to please people and be the best that [they] can.” They felt constantly scrutinized and criticized of their "personalities, music and style."[2] The dark figures and scientists may represent the mass media, who will never be entirely pleased with any presentation they are given. The scientists laugh at Bach, even as they are the ones controlling him to be what they want.

When Bach returns to his respective place and time period (from before using the time travelling device), he looks confident as he sings. But then, he gets surrounded and taken away by the dark figures. This alludes to Brett and Eddy's potential burnout, if they continued with TwoSet: even if they indulged in their foundations (their love for music), they would feel the constant pressure of having to create content, instead of creating from the basis of passion.

Papa Wolfgang Style (Mozart's song)[]

B²TSM - 'Papa Wolfgang Style' Official MV on Youtube.

Released on December 9th, 2024. The music video highlights Mozart's alleged (and infamous) rivalry with his contemporary, Salieri, while also paying homage to Gangnam Style by PSY (via the phrase "Papa Wolfgang Style"). The rivalry of the two composers are depicted as more so a friendly competition than hostile opposition, which also nods to TwoSet Violin's friendly "beef" with bassist Davie504, hence the casting of Davie504 as Salieri. Salieri was also Italian, like Davie504.

In real life, it is unclear whether or not the rivalry between Mozart and Salieri is as heated as the public perceive them to be, but their dynamic has managed to capture the interest of both Mozart's fans and audiences of the public, as shown in the video, where there are people reading a newspaper about Salieri challenging Mozart to a dance battle. The majority of the lyrics showcases Mozart's playful and cheeky confidence towards his own talents and his feeling of superiority against his rival, but in the end of the music video, the two wordlessly reconciled and skipped away.

Trivia[]

  • While playing as Dmitri Shostakovich and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Brett Yang wore two different kinds of glasses. For the former, he wore rounder glasses (from a few years back), and for the latter, he wore his usual thick-rimmed glasses. As of the date this Wiki was updated, Yang has changed his glasses to a rounder and thinner-rimmed kind, but it is newer and different from the ones he first used for Shostakovich since early 2024.
  • It is uncertain between Shostakovich and Mozart on who is the hyung (eldest) and maknae (youngest) of the group. Shostakovich was born in the 1900s and Mozart was born in the 1700s, but Shostakovich lived the longest (68 years) and Mozart lived the shortest (35 years).
